South East Rivers Trust Launch the ‘Everyday River Heroes’ Campaign

We are honored to be working with the South East Rivers Trust (SERT) on this year’s UK River Summit and value the support of the full team. Landing on our website, we know you care about rivers and their habitats, and so we’d like to share this invite for you to join SERT’s new program called Everyday River Heroes.

Below, SERT outline what it means to work with them to become an Everyday River Hero…

Become an Everyday River Hero

Our rivers support a wealth of diverse flora and fauna that are a vital part of many food chains. They also provide havens in our urban neighbourhoods without which the natural areas of our towns and cities would be more fragmented than ever - making it harder for wildlife and people to thrive. But sadly they’re under significant threat from pollution, litter, increasing droughts, and over-abstraction.

Water in south east England

It may be hard to believe, especially when it’s raining, but the southeast of England receives less annual rainfall than the south of France, and it has now been classified as a water-stressed region. This means that the demand for water usage is larger than the water available in the landscape. Water we use in our homes and businesses comes from our local environment; abstracted from rivers and the underground reserves that feed them. Without rivers, we could not shower, wash our clothes, stay hydrated, or even flush the loo. Clean and abundant water is a necessity to us and vital to river ecosystems – providing healthy habitats for a diverse range of plants and animals.

Help your river thrive

As an Everyday River Hero, you’ll be joining our SERT community of like-minded people who all want our local rivers to be healthy. By making simple changes at home every day, you’ll be helping to restore your local river and improve its habitat and environment.

Are you ready to make a difference?

When you become an Everyday River Hero we'll show you how making small changes in your daily routine can bring rivers back to life. Over 10 weeks we will send you easy tips and tricks for you to try at home; from water-saving bathrooms to water quality and sewage insights; wildlife hints to plastic pollution no-nos, and keep you up to date on community action events and activities in your area.
