The River Festival celebrates Partnership with Local Craft Brewers, BDQ Beer Co.
The River Festival is set to return to Chalabre, France, in September 2023 and, for the second year running, is partnering with local craft brewers, BDQ Beer Co.
The inaugural River Festival took place in Chalabre, Aude, in September 2022. This year's event will take place on the 15th and 16th of September 2023, with the aim of celebrating rivers again, and engaging the local community in citizen science and discussing the current environmental issues facing rivers and seeking solutions that will bring about change.
School children, residents, families and environmental experts will be invited to participate in the collection of over 100 water samples using monitors provided by EarthWatch Europe. The results will be analysed and presented at the River Festival, which will culminate in an afternoon of educational workshops led by local artisans, experts and musicians, as well as fly-fishing workshops and a fire-fired feast by local chefs Nicolas and Mirella Kersting.
BDQ Beer Co, founded by Jayne and Paul Bayliss and based in Puivert and Chalabre, supported the initial event with three Limited Edition Beers, named after the rivers that meet at Chalabre; L'Hers, Le Blau, Le Chalabreil, in the vicinity closest to the summit. Each label is adorned with a vibrant design of famous fishing flies.
The beers will be on sale throughout France in the run up to the event to publicise the River Festival.
Claire Zambuni, founder of the River Festival, said: "We are delighted to have the continued and much appreciated support of local artisans for this year's River Festival in France. Like our own, BDQ Beer Co's story is one of passion, commitment and energy. Each of the beers they produce has a multi-faceted story, but at the heart of the company is a desire to create a sense of community and care for the environment that these communities so heavily rely on. This is the very essence of the event that BDQ Beer Co enhances through its support."
Speaking about the event, Jayne Bayliss said, "As a company, we are passionate about producing high quality beer in an environmentally responsible way. Partnering with the River Festival fits perfectly with our values, putting Chalabre at the heart of environmental discussions and offering local people the opportunity to become stewards of our waterways and celebrate local natural resources. We are proud to support the event with three bespoke editions of BDQ Beer Co. named after Chalabre's three rivers - L'Hers, Le Blau, Le Chalabreil."
The River Festival is supported by some of the world's best outdoor brands, but it also recognises the importance of underpinning the event with local knowledge and products.
