The Art of the Mini Adventure

Written for Orvis UK

What makes an adventure? For many, it’s all about exploring a new place, water, or summit and the journey that takes them there. We have come to appreciate the art of the mini adventure – exploring our local waters, walks, and landscapes with the people closest to us.

Heading back home to the Lake District, here are just a few of my top hikes, fishing spots and things to enjoy in the outdoors.

Taking on Great Gable was a walk for a more experienced member of the pack – Holly, our 10 year old Labrador. She was rewarded with treats and a few inches of snow to enjoy after a long ascent through the clouds.

Sometimes the most surprising views can be seen from your car window with hot coffee and good company. A quick stop off on the winding roads, the Orvis Land Rover looked right at home on the iconic Honister Pass.

Just a couple of miles from home, I’ve strolled the shoreline of Loweswater more times than I can count. On this particular visit, waders were donned and rods set-up to explore this water in a whole new light – a mission for Pike on the Fly. Sub-zero temperatures and stunning scenes, I’m still “one last cast” away from catching my first Lake District pike.
